Va. High vs Gate City JV Baseball coming soon

Make-up game is today at Grogan Park. Not raining in Bristol whats it doing in Gate City?

Overcast in GC, few intermittent sprinkles. It doesn't, however, look like much rain - at least, at the present.

I got a chance to see the game today won by VaHigh 5-2. Gate City was ahead 2-1 till the 7th inning when VaHigh scored 4 runs to put the game away. Great game from both teams. I thought Gate City looked pretty good. The lefty pitcher for GC was tuff for 6 innings.I think he picked 2 or 3 off at first. VaHigh pitcher was pretty tuff also ! He was really popping the catchers mit.

Yes it was a good game as I knew it would be. These kids have always played each other tough. The Hughes kid for Gate City pitched very well. He mixes his pitches and keeps you off balance. Both teams missed some chances throughout the game. This is just the start of many District games to come in the next few years. Also as always the Gate City fans and coaches were great sports. Many came up and talked to me and asked about our players and how they were doing. Also dang good hotdogs at Grogan park! [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Well Hughes is a really good pitcher. Has a great curveball.

And did you get one with chilie? Because that stuff down there is exquisite.

Can you eat a hot dog without chili? That pitch is not really a curve ball. It is more of a change that sinks at the end. It doesn't have that sharp break of a curve ball. What makes it so effective is that he hides it well and it is so much slower. Whatever you call it it works. Each time we have played them it has always been the same pattern, he will fool you for much of the game but eventually we get to him.

Well from what ive seen it doesnt just drop. It curves a whole lot. When the JV team played Lee's JV team the thing started behind the batter and almost ended up being a strike.
